    Thermodynamic Topology and Materials Optimization

    • Development of variational approaches for the thermodynamic optimization of the topology of construction parts and engineering structures
    • Development of novel and numerically advantageous concepts for regularization to avoid the checkerboard phenomenon
    • Consideration of material and geometrical non-linearities as, e.g., fiber reinforced materials, hybrid materials systems (steel/concrete, 3D print), hyperelastic materials (rubber)

    Stochastic Material Behavior

    • Development of novel approaches to modeling the stochastic behaior of elastic and inelastic materials, e.g., creep behavior in concrete, polymers, metals
    • Development of improved finite element formulations to accurately compute the local and global stochastic quantities as stress distribution and nodal forces

    Damage Mechanics

    • Development of numerically advantageous regularization methods to avoid mesh dependencies in finite element simulations
