Abstract

Based on a perturbed Lagrangian formulation a finite element procedure for contact problems is developed. This method leads naturally to a discretization of the contact interface into contact segments. Due to a bilinear interpolation of the displacements and a constant contact pressure within a contact segment the constraint condition enters into the formulation in an 'average sense' instead of a 'point-wise' enforcement.
