- Abstract
An application of detailed constitutive material equations as well as a precise modelling of the cast/mould interaction during the solidification process is required for a reliable prediction of potential quality defects of casting products. In this contribution we focus on the description of contact-dependend heat transfer between the metal and the mould. The contact formulation is based on the mortar finite element scheme which allows an enforcement of the contact constraints in a weak, integral sense. This strategy has turned out to be more stable for contact problems than other schemes like node-to-segment discretization.
